Meyers Beach is located in northern Wisconsin near the Apostle Islands. Meyers beach also connects with Lake Superior which offers a great place for swimming during warmer weathers. There are also Sea Caves nearby to explore through kayaking in the Bayfield Peninsula. Visitors should also take a water taxi to explore the Apostle Islands! Kayaking during the summer is beautiful, but during the winter the lake is frozen and gives visitors the opportunity to explore ice caves.
Kayak around Madeline Island(Summer)(Beginner): In Madeline Island you can enjoy sea caves, cliffs, beaches, and lagoons. You can pick up the ferry in Bayfield and rent kayaks in La Pointe. Start at Big Bay State Park and paddle to the south side of the island to see the sea caves, then head back to the beach at Big Bay for lunch before paddling across the bay to Big Bay Lagoon. The sea caves and cliffs are an amazing sight but if you have limited time or you don’t want to exhaust yourself, the lagoon is the place to see. The water is warmer and calmer. There’s also wildlife to see, including turtles.
Hike the Lake Superior Ice Caves(Winter)(Intermediate): Witness amazing ice caves on Lake Superior! The hike begins at Meyer’s Beach in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore near Cornucopia, WI. Head out onto the frozen lake and follow the shoreline east about a half a mile to the first caves. The caves, arches, and ice formations extend a mile along the shoreline.
Explore Siskiwit Falls(Spring-Winter)(Beginner): The Siskiwit Falls is located near the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Cornucopia and is a very short .1 mile walk. This is a beautiful waterfall surrounded by trees. Come during fall and enjoy the waterfall with color changing leaves!
Catch a sunset at Hokneson Fishery: This abandoned fishery sits along Lake Superior giving it incredible views to check out for sunset. Begin at the campground visitor center. Follow the marked paved trail right roughly .08 of a mile. The paved trail ends onto a sandy beach and the abandoned Hokenson Fishery. The trail itself is very short and should take less than 3 minutes to get to. This location gives beautiful views of Lake Superior.
Kayak to the Sand Island Sea Caves: Kayakers can explore beautiful sandstone sea caves in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Explore these amazing sea caves of Sand Island for hours and become engulfed in everything else the Island has to offer. To get to Little Sand Bay from Bayfield take Highway 13 north for about 5 miles, then take a right on Old County Hwy K Road. Follow Old County Hwy K Road for another 5 miles. Finally take a right on Little Sand Bay Road and take it for 2.5 miles until you reach Little Sand Bay.
Hike to Lost Creek Falls(Spring-Fall)(Beginner): The hike to Lost Creek Falls is a round trip of 2.5 miles which features a unique small waterfall. Hikers are able to walk under the rock which forms waterfall making this hike very unique! To get there, from the town of Cornucopia drive west on Hwy 13. You will turn left onto Klemik Road (Dirt Road). Go down about a mile and you will look for a yellow gate/trail on your left. Park on the side of the road.
Hike the Point Trail at Big Bay State Park(Spring-Fall)(Intermediate): This hike has stunning views, red cliffs, and clear blue water. The tall trees and waters make is a perfect place to relax and enjoy all the scenery. Located at the tip of Wisconsin on Madeline Island, Big Bay State Park is a must see for any Wisconsinite. To get to Madeline Island, you’ll need to purchase a round trip ferry ride in Bayfield. The ferry is a quick 20 minute trip across Lake Superior. Once you get onto Madeline Island, head out to Big Bay State Park which is about 10 minutes away. When you enter the park, head toward the camping and then take a right down the road before the campsites. Keep going down the road for about a mile and a half before you get to the second parking lot. You’ll see a sign for three trails, so make sure to take the Point Trail.
Explore Twin Falls(Spring-Fall)(Beginner): A quick and easy hike to a hidden cavern and a unique little waterfall.It’s located on Highway 13 on the outskirts of Port Wing, WI. If you are coming from the west, you’ll see a sign on your right for the park. This will be before you get to the town of Port Wing. If you are coming from the East on Highway 13, you will pass through the town and it’s shortly after it on your left.
